Most people feel daunted by the prospect of doing a presentation.  Presentations can be formal or informal and, regardless of this, they need to be authentic, engaging and delivered with confidence.

Presenting with Confidence is a one-day course that will help you build your confidence and teach you the principles needed to make your presentation great and memorable.

You will receive tips on how to structure your content and work on your body language and vocal delivery, so you can keep the audience engaged.

Audience

This course is aimed at trainee to 3 years PQE level solicitors.

You can be new to presenting or someone who is looking to improve your skills.

This is an interactive course which involves group and individual exercises, group discussions and individual presentations.

Topics Covered

Structure and Style

  • Structure will look at the content of your presentation and how to make it engaging and concise
  • Style will look at the delivery of the presentation – Body Language, Vocals and Fear.
Prior Knowledge

No prior knowledge is required.

You can be new to presenting or someone who is looking to improve your skills.

Coursework

Pre-Course Work  

If you require Professional Skills Course (PSC) training credits, you will be required to complete all of the following pre-course work exercises in accordance with the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority (SRA)’s requirements:

  • Exercise 1: Prepare a 3-minute presentation (30 minutes)
  • Exercise 2: Structure: Power of Three (30 minutes)
  • Exercise 3: Authentic Presenting Style (2 hours)

If you do not require training credits, you will not be required to complete all of the exercises, but are strongly advised to complete at least Exercise 1 for your own benefit, as this exercise forms a key part of the day.

Post-Course Work

The post-course work is to consolidate what you learnt on the course and is an opportunity to address any knowledge gaps and improve your presentation skills through exercises and/or a personal development plan.

If you require PSC training credits, you will be required to complete all of the following post-course work exercises in accordance with the SRA requirements:

  • Exercise 4: Body Language: Amy Cuddy (1 hour)
  • Exercise 5: Breathing and Vocals (30 minutes)
  • Exercise 6: Personal Development Plan (1 hour 30 minutes)

If you are a solicitor, the reflective element of the post-course work can be referenced to the SRA Competence Statement and will count towards your responsibility to maintain the required competencies to continue in practice.
