It was great to achieve a significant milestone in my career at Alliotts recently in being awarded the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) accreditation.
The Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) qualification is an internationally recognised accreditation for professionals involved in the detection and prevention of Fraud. Before sitting the qualification CFE’s need to have had relevant work experience in the field. This demonstrates that they have been able to put what they have learnt into practice. The qualification provides you with specialist training in the practical aspects of detection and prevention as well as a solid background in the legal aspects of fraud examinations.
I fell into this field through chance through my role as an auditor advising clients on improving their control systems to improve operational efficiency and to protect themselves from fraud.
Although there is some overlap, the controls required for an effective system to protect against the various guises of fraud are not necessarily the same controls you’d implement for your financial reporting systems. And that’s where a trained CFE professional can really add value to your organisation. Having gained my qualification and received the training provided by the ACFE (Association of Certified Fraud Examiners) I am now able to help my clients even further as a member of Alliotts Fraud and Forensics Team which is led by Alliotts partner Peter Edwards.
The new skills I’ve developed have also helped me implement Alliotts’ new ‘Fraud Health Check’ service. Prevention is key in the fight against fraud and its essential that every organisation reviews their systems regularly to ensure they are fit for purpose and up to date.
I enjoy working with clients, discussing their systems and getting to know them and their businesses. I get immense satisfaction from putting my expertise to good use to help them to achieve the robust systems that will make a fraudster’s job even tougher!
