Roy is a solicitor-advocate, experienced legal trainer, and a Certified Fraud Examiner.  He founded his own practice in 1985 that became one of the largest practices in Wales and joint top criminal law firm.

Described as “a leading light in Criminal law” (Legal 500), Roy has regularly exercised his rights of audience in the Crown Court, and, with more than 35 years’ experience, he has extensive knowledge of all aspects of magistrates’ and higher court advocacy.

Roy is BARBRI Altior’s lead advocacy trainer and assessor for Higher Rights of Audience (Criminal), Advocacy & Communication Skills and CILEx Criminal Proceedings Advocacy Skills.  He also conducts courses on such matters as Trial Strategy Planning, Handing Experts and Criminal Cross-Examination Techniques.

As a former Chair of LAPG (2004-2010) and past President of Cardiff and District Law Society, Roy understands the issues facing legal practice.  He has sat on various working groups and given evidence before the Select Committee on the delivery of legal services.

Involved for over 30 years in training, assessment and course writing, Roy also delivers various practical skills courses such as Business Development & Networking Skills and Time & Stress Management.

Whilst in private practice, Roy pioneered a number of projects and pilots for the delivery of legal services, was a media spokesperson on legal matters and featured on various BBC television and radio programmes (Lawyers Casebook, Good Morning Wales, Today, The Jeremy Vine Show and The One Show).
